Get the Job Done

We are getting into the first full week of the season and already we have seen some close games. Friday Night #4 Tennessee Lady Vols pulled off the win against Jeff Walz Lady Cardinals of Louisville, but it was not easy. Late in the first half, Tennessee only led by one but they managed to keep the lead and go on to win by 13. Kelley Cain having four fouls did not help and Coach Walz attacked and used that to his advantage, but came up a bit short in the end.

Yesterday, C. Vivian Stringer had her Scarlet Knights ready for Tara Vanderveer's #3 Lady Cardinals of Stanford. Already we have seen two top ten teams put to the test and we wonder what impact that will have on their season??? Are they ready for this season or were they just getting warmed up? Tennessee will be back on the court tonight against UT -Chattanooga before facing a very powerful Debbie Ryan and Lady Cavalier's of Virgina.

Big game of the week - Yes, that's right #1 Connecticut and #2 Baylor this Tuesday on ESPN2 for a battle for that #1 position. Will Connecticut hold on to it and continue their winning streak or will Brittney Griner shut down Maya Moore and Stop Those Lady Huskies??? I am very interested in this game and see how much Griner has mutured since her freshmen year. We all know her ability is there and also, how will Connecticut be without Junior Caroline Doty? In all three games thus far, Connecticut has averaged 109.6 points and held their opponent to 41 or less.

Now to the biggest kept secret of Atlanta - Georgia Tech Lady Jackets! Coming off a devastating loss yesterday - will the will to survive kick in? I think so. I think Georgia Tech will be just fine. Head Coach MaChelle Joseph has built this program and she is not about to let it crash down. The past four seasons, she has had 20+ win seasons and trips to the NCAA tournament, so she knows what it takes to get back there and advance further than last season. Also, she is not wanting to go into December with a losing record so as I see it - they will win or be looking for a new place to play? (That said jokingly). I think this loss will give our team the motivation to practice harder and fight harder since we are looking to play Connecticut and Tennesse within the next two weeks - We will get the job done from here on out! NO DOUBT!

From a Rainy Atlanta,
Clay
