2011-12 Season

Well Folks - it's that time of year again. It's time to follow your favorite team on the road to the final four. That's right, it's womens basketball season.

Were any of us really surprised at the preseason rankings? Baylor on top at #1 , Tennessee sitting at #3 followed by Connecticut, Stanford, Oklahoma, and Texas to name a few more. It's the familiar faces as always. Will they stay the top favorites or is there some better and well matched teams out there ready to make a statement? We'll see!

The athletics world was stopped in their tracks recently as Tennessee Head Coach Pat Summitt made a disturbing announcement. To the world, she announced her recent diagnosis with dementia, alzheimer's type. While this shocked the basketball community, Coach Summitt said she was face this like any other obstacles in her life. She stated she would not let this control her and while there is no cure of this dreaded disease, she is living life as normal today. We all wish her the best of health today as well as the days and years to come. She is a legendary and pioneer in women's basketball. She has helped build the program to what it is today.

Friday is the tip-off to the season. I'm ready to watch some great games and see some respect given to teams that probably should have been preseason top 25. Let's not turn our back and reject the unfamiliar because that will be when they sneak up and sting you (pun intended). That's right, Georgia Tech Lady Jackets return five seniors to this seasons roster. Coach Joseph knows what it takes be a winner and I'm pretty sure she will have her team ready on Friday. In their first eight games, they will face ranked opponents. They will face #16 Rutgers, #24 Green Bay, RV Marquette, #13 Georgia, and not to mention, none of these on their home court. Early on will Coach Joseph's team be defined early before they even face the ranked teams in the ACC. There will be many challenges ahead for this Lady Jackets team, but winning all four will definately make them a top contender and will put them in the top 15.

If you are in the Atlanta area, come out Friday to the Gwinnett Arena and see the Lady Jackets take on Alabama State at 5:30pm or CSS will air TCU at Georgia at 6:00pm. So get home, relax, and get ready for a showdown season. This should be a season to remember.
